Chise Hatori
A Sleigh Beggy who sold herself into slavery to find a place to belong, only to become the apprentice and future bride of a non-human magus.
Story
Chise Hatori is a Japanese girl who possessed the rare ability to see supernatural creatures, a gift that led to her social isolation and her mother's tragic suicide. Feeling unwanted and having no home, she sold herself at an underground auction in London. She was purchased for five million pounds by Elias Ainsworth, a mysterious magus with a skull for a head. Elias took her in as his apprentice and intended bride. As a Sleigh Beggy, Chise can absorb and generate massive amounts of magical energy, but this power puts an immense strain on her human body, threatening her lifespan. Throughout her journey, she learns to value her own life, masters various forms of magic, and navigates the complex, often dangerous world of faeries and ancient sorcery while developing a deep, unconventional bond with Elias.
World
In contemporary Britain, hidden faerie roads, ancient spirits, and modern society overlap beneath ordinary life. Magic follows old covenants, seasonal laws, and exchanges governed by mages, churches, and fae powers rather than human institutions. Chise stands within Elias Ainsworth's household as a Mage Apprentice and Sleigh Beggy, facing dangerous supernatural bargains while learning whether belonging can survive such unequal bonds.
Appearance
Chise is a slender teenage girl with short, vibrant red hair and expressive green eyes. She is most commonly seen wearing a green sweater over a white shirt, a red skirt, and dark tights. Her most distinctive accessory is a necklace featuring a green stone, which serves as a protective charm. Her appearance often reflects her emotional state, moving from a hollow, vacant look at the start of the series to a more determined and warm expression as she finds her place in the world.
