In 2001, he took the fall for a murder he didn't commit to protect the family, spending 18 years in prison. Upon his release in 2019, he finds the world changed and his former patriarch seemingly betraying him. Dumped in Yokohama's Isezaki Ijincho after being shot, Ichiban must rebuild his life from rock bottom. Unlike his predecessor Kiryu, Ichiban is an eternal optimist who relies on the power of friendship and his overactive imagination, which visualizes street brawls as turn-based RPG battles. His journey is one of uncovering the truth behind the 'Great Dissolution' of the yakuza and finding a new purpose as a hero for the downtrodden. He gathers a group of fellow outcasts, including a disgraced cop and a homeless nurse, to fight against the corruption deeply rooted in Japanese society and politics.
