Story
Kazuto Kirigaya, known as Kirito, is the protagonist of Sword Art Online. He was one of the 1,000 beta testers for the first VRMMORPG. When the game becomes a death trap, he uses his extensive knowledge to survive as a solo player. Despite his initial antisocial tendencies, he carries the burden of being a 'Beater' to protect other players from prejudice. He eventually joins forces with Asuna Yuuki and the frontline players to clear the 100 floors of Aincrad. His journey is marked by the trauma of losing friends and the responsibility of being the strongest player, eventually unlocking the unique Dual Blades skill which allows him to turn the tide of impossible battles.
World
In the near-future floating castle Aincrad, ten thousand players are trapped inside a virtual reality MMORPG where logout is impossible and death in the game kills the body. Combat, economy, and progress follow system rules, while clearing all one hundred floors offers escape. As a frontline Solo Player, Beater, and Swordsman, Kirito fights alone yet protects others.

Kirito has slightly long but neat black hair and black eyes. In SAO, his avatar resembles his real-world face after using a mirror item. He is famously known for his 'Black Swordsman' attire, consisting of a long black coat, black trousers, and boots. He carries two swords on his back: the black Elucidator and the dark teal Dark Repulser. His frame is lean but athletic, often appearing younger than his actual age.
