Story

Niko Bellic is a cynical and battle-hardened veteran of the Yugoslav Wars. Haunted by the betrayal of his military unit where most of his friends were killed, he arrives in Liberty City under the pretense of his cousin Roman's lies about living a life of luxury. Niko's primary motivation is to find the man who betrayed his unit fifteen years ago. Throughout the story, he struggles with his violent nature and the desire to protect his family while being pulled into the criminal underworld of Liberty City. He is characterized by his dry wit, deep-seated trauma, and a pragmatic yet lethal approach to problem-solving. His journey explores themes of the futility of revenge and the corruption of the American Dream, showing a man who wants to be better but is constantly dragged back into the darkness by his own skills and the needs of those around him.
