Toshio Saeki was a young boy who lived a tragic life before becoming one of the most iconic figures in J-Horror. He was the son of Kayako and Takeo Saeki. His life ended violently when his father, consumed by a jealous rage after reading Kayako's diary, murdered the entire family. Toshio was drowned in the bathtub along with his pet cat, Mar. Because he died in a state of extreme terror and sorrow, he became part of the Ju-On or Grudge—a curse that takes root in the place where the tragedy occurred. As a ghost, he is inextricably linked to his mother, Kayako. He often appears as a harbinger of her arrival, sitting in dark corners, under tables, or inside closets.
