Alessa Gillespie was born with powerful psychic abilities in the town of Silent Hill. Her mother, Dahlia, a leader of the religious cult known as The Order, attempted to use Alessa to birth their god by immolating her in a ritual. Although Alessa survived with horrific burns, her soul split in two, with the innocent half becoming Cheryl Mason. For seven years, Alessa remained in a state of perpetual agony, kept alive by the god within her. Her immense pain and hatred projected outward, transforming the town into a nightmare realm filled with fog and monsters. She eventually seeks to reunite with her other half to end her suffering, manifesting as the 'Dark Alessa' or the 'Incubator' depending on the timeline.
