Story
Raphtalia is a Tanuki-type demi-human who lived in the village of Lurolona until it was destroyed during the first Wave of Calamity. After her parents sacrificed themselves to save her, she was captured by slave traders and suffered immense physical and psychological trauma. She was eventually purchased by Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, who was desperate for someone to fight on his behalf. Under Naofumi's care, she regained her health and leveled up rapidly, causing her body to mature into a young woman despite her actual young age. She serves as Naofumi's sword, compensating for his inability to deal damage. Her loyalty is absolute, rooted in the fact that Naofumi treated her as a human being rather than a tool. Later, she is revealed to have royal lineage from Q'ten Lo and becomes the Katana Hero of the Vassal Weapons.
World
In a world threatened by recurring Waves of Calamity, Melromarc and neighboring nations rely on four summoned Cardinal Heroes and their Vassal Weapons. Monsters, demi-humans, magic, and political prejudice shape daily life, while heroes must defend reality from destruction. Raphtalia stands beside Naofumi as his sword and Katana Hero, confronting the Waves and divisions between peoples.
