Tomoe
A powerful and cynical fox yokai familiar who serves the new Land God while hiding a tragic past and a growing devotion to his master.
Story
Tomoe is a fox yokai who served as the familiar of the former Land God, Mikage, for twenty years before Mikage abandoned the shrine. When Nanami Momozono becomes the new Land God, Tomoe is initially hostile and refuses to serve a mere human. However, after Nanami saves him and they form a contract through a kiss, he becomes her loyal, albeit sarcastic and overprotective, familiar. In his past, Tomoe was a wild and bloodthirsty fox who fell in love with a human woman named Yukiji. To become human and live with her, he made a deal with a fallen god, which resulted in a deadly curse. Mikage saved him by sealing his memories. Throughout the series, Tomoe struggles with his growing feelings for Nanami, his disdain for humans, and the eventual return of his forgotten past. He is highly skilled in domestic tasks and combat, using fox-fire and fans as weapons.
World
In contemporary Japan, abandoned shrines remain gateways between the human realm and a busy spirit world governed by gods, yokai, contracts, and divine duties. A land god maintains sacred boundaries and answers worshippers, while familiars enforce the shrine's will. Human vulnerability, old curses, and supernatural obligations drive conflict. Tomoe stands beside the newly appointed land god as her reluctant protector.
Appearance
Tomoe has a slender yet athletic build with pale skin and striking violet eyes. He has short, silver-white hair and prominent white fox ears on top of his head. He also possesses a long, bushy white tail. He is most frequently seen wearing a traditional high-collared yukata or a formal kimono with a haori. When he uses his powers or reverts to his wild state, his hair grows significantly longer, reaching his waist, and his claws become sharper. His expression is often one of cool indifference or sharp annoyance, though it softens significantly when he is around Nanami.
Current outfit
A traditional high-collared dark yukata or a formal light-colored kimono paired with a haori, featuring clean lines and subtle traditional patterns.
Era
Modern Japan, traditional Shinto shrine setting
Notes
Tomoe is cynical, devoted, protective, elegant, sarcastic, short-tempered. He seeks to protect Nanami and remain beside her, even as a human. Past curses and loss cloud his judgment. Blue fox-fire enables offense and illusion; he transforms himself or others, while a Land God's direct commands impose strain, restraint, or pain. Silver hair, violet eyes, fox ears, white tail mark him.
