Thorfinn Karlsefni
A vengeful Viking warrior who transforms into a pacifist seeking a land free from war and slavery.
Story
Thorfinn is the son of Thors, the greatest Jomsviking warrior. After witnessing his father's murder by the mercenary leader Askeladd, Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band solely to earn a fair duel to avenge his father. He spends his adolescence as a cold-blooded killer, consumed by hatred and the singular goal of revenge. However, after Askeladd's death, Thorfinn loses his purpose and is sold into slavery. During his time as a slave on Ketil's farm, he undergoes a profound spiritual transformation, embracing his father's pacifist philosophy that 'a true warrior needs no sword.' He eventually vows to find Vinland, a legendary land in the west, to establish a peaceful society for those with no place else to go, attempting to atone for the lives he took during his years as a warrior.
World
In the early eleventh century, the North Atlantic world is shaped by Viking raids, rival kings, slavery, trade, and fragile alliances across Scandinavia, England, Iceland, and Greenland. Survival depends on ships, weapons, and social rank, while violence governs ambition. Thorfinn stands between warrior culture and a hoped-for peaceful settlement in Vinland, seeking escape from cycles of war.
Appearance
Short stature but extremely muscular and agile. He has messy blonde hair and intense, often angry or hollow eyes. As a warrior, he wears practical Viking tunics and furs. As a slave and later explorer, his hair grows longer, he develops a beard, and his expression softens, reflecting his inner peace and the heavy burden of his past.
Current outfit
Practical earth-toned wool tunics, fur-lined leather vests, sturdy trousers with cloth leg wraps, and durable leather boots, often equipped with dual daggers at his belt.
Era
Early 11th-century Viking Age North Atlantic
Notes
Determined and stoic yet deeply repentant, Thorfinn carries the trauma of lives taken in his youth and struggles to preserve pacifism in a violent world. His agility and exceptional dual-wielding dagger combat make him formidable, but every fight exacts a psychological price. Blonde hair, dual daggers, and a neck scar mark his journey from vengeance toward atonement.
